Updated OLGA (Operative Link on Gastritis Assessment) classification

Abstract
The OLGA (Operative Link on Gastritis Assessment) gastric cancer risk stratification system has become widely used. This classification is based on the morphological characteristics of gastric biopsies obtained using the traditional method within the updated Sydney system. Along with OLGA, the Kimura-Takemoto endoscopic classification of atrophic gastritis, which relies on the topographic principle of assessing atrophy of the antral and corpus mucosa, is widely used. The authors of this study developed an updated OLGA classification, which represents an integrated gastric cancer risk assessment system that combines the advantages of both classifications. Furthermore, assessing cumulative risk using the updated OLGA classification will improve the effectiveness of gastric cancer preventive measures.
